une grande fête rituelle, mystique et culturelle animée par les hauts dirigeants des différents cantons de la Ville de Douala et sa Métropole
le Culte des ancêtres en communiant avec les forces ou esprits de l'eau protecteur du fleuve Wouri, des ondines dénommées Mengu au pluriel ou Jengu en langue duala. Jusqu'en 1972, cette fête était célébrée chaque 12 juillet de l'année civile pour honorer la culture et la civilisation Duala et Sawa et également en souvenir du traité Camerouno-germanique signé par les rois Duala et les autorités allemandes. Après la célèbre et mémorable fête du 12 juillet 1972, cette fête fut interdite par les autorités camerounaises avant de connaître un véritable renouveau et une renaissance, mieux une véritable RÉNOVATION Depuis lors, elle est célébrée au mois de décembre.

Institution séculaire, l'assemblée traditionnelle du peuple sawa se trouve à la croisée des chemins.

De Campo à Manfé, les Sawa sont venus nombreux en décembre dernier, en tenue traditionnelle, envahir le banc de sable des berges du Wouri. Un lieu considéré de communion entre les ancêtres au fond des eaux et les populations sur terre. Moins de dix minutes suffiront alors pour voir le plongeur, sortir la tête de l'eau, tenant dans ses mains le vase sacré. Il était ainsi porteur du message des ancêtres à la communauté, qui devait être décrypté quelque temps après par un autre initié. « Au-delà du faste et de la solennité qui entourent cette fête, c'est là le point culminant des cérémonies, le message des ancêtres», a déclaré Pamphile Yobe, secrétaire général du Ngondo.
